Cards win! It’s only 5:50am and I’m already at my gate on this Sunday morning. I should be at home snuggled in bed a few hours from having to get up for church. I stopped to get a coffee close to my gate and ordered my usual Triple Grande Non-fat Latte.
There were military men in line ahead of me chatting with the barista about Iraq. The Barista said he couldn’t be in the military because he couldn’t be that far from home. I thought how little this person understands about the military if being away from home was his biggest concern for a person in the military. The other barista commented “I couldn’t do it because I have kids”, as though those serving in the US forces don’t have families.
It’s never convenient to serve our country, that’s why it’s called serving. You are sacrificing for others. I only wish a larger number of “the others” appreciated their sacrifice more. It’s not that they don’t have families or love to sleep thousands of miles away from home; it’s that they accept that someone must do it for the rest of us to enjoy our freedom as we do.
After my flight to Dallas, I boarded a flight to College Station Texas that felt more like a flying sardine can.
There were 50 seats and they were all full. I have flown on smaller planes, but we boarded too early in the Texas heat if they didn’t intend to fire up the engines and the air. Once we landed it seemed I had had a 45 minute flight on a blender.
I arrived safely and that’s all that mattered.
